With millions of devices in homes now connecting HDTVs to the Internet, online movie services are poised to send a flood of high-definition movies down those digital pipes. The flow, however, might be less than smooth, given limited broadband connection speeds in U.S. homes and the superior video quality on Blu-ray Disc.

Amazon looks set to start selling HD video downloads any day now, hot on the heels of Apple’s iTunes HD movie offering, which was unveiled yesterday. Amazon’s web site already contains links to HD versions of TV show downloads, but while the actual show detail pages weren’t available, we found some juicy details about HD pricing:

High-Definition TVs are now in more than 30 million U.S. homes and that number continues to rise. This makes the high-def audience a prime target for HD-related companies. And when businesses are in highly competitive category, such as high-def, they will tend to be more aggressive in marketing campaigns designed to win over that audience.
