Do you think that DIRECTV carries enough HD networks? There's increasing evidence that the satcaster does -- and it doesn't plan to do anything about it.

DirecTV is offering customers 33 movies via its on-demand service in 1080p high-definition format, the so-called "full HD" standard, which the satellite TV operator claimed is more than any other service.

Dish Network -- which has boasted of being "first" to offer 1080p content -- currently lists about 20 movies in the HD format through its own on-demand service.

DIRECTV announced yesterday that it will provide eight different High-Definition angles of President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration on one screen. The inauguration, which will be held Tuesday, January 20, will be displayed on DIRECTV's interactive Mix Channel.

Dear Greg: My mother is 75 years old and a die-hard Magic fan. Comcast couldn't provide coverage of her beloved team so she opted for DirecTV, which allowed her to watch the games. Sometimes she would spend hours on the phone with customer service to get the TV set configured to show the games.

Dish Network will in some ways be the most interesting company to watch over the next several years in the crowd that includes AT&T, Verizon, DirecTV, Dish Network,Comcast ( News - Alert), Time Warner, Cox Communications, Qwest and possibly a few others.
