Microsoft Xbox Console Sales Double After Price Cut

Sept. 10 (Bloomberg) -- Microsoft Corp. doubled sales of the Xbox 360 video game machine last weekend after cutting the price by as much as 29 percent to narrow Nintendo Co.'s lead.

Microsoft will cut the retail price of its Xbox 360 Arcade model from $279.99 to $199.99, a move it expects will spark a fresh wave of adoption amongst would-be gamers. Microsoft is also cutting the price of its midrange Xbox 360 Premium console from $349.99 to $299.99, and reducing its high end Xbox 360 Elite model from $449.99 to $399.99.

Microsoft has dropped the price of its Xbox 360 entry level gaming console. Starting this Friday, Sept. 5, the Xbox 360 Arcade will retail for $199, the Xbox 360 will sell for $299, and the Xbox 360 Elite will retail for $399. The Xbox 360 Arcade is now less expensive than the most popular gaming console Wii.
