Read more »Could things be going any worse for DISH Network who has just announced it would pay $104 million to TIVO for stealing its DVR patent? The satellite television broadcaster was sued in 2004 and found guilty in 2006. Yesterday DISH said they would pay, but it appears the appeals will continue.
In a statement DISH said, "Because of the Supreme Court’s decision, we will pay TiVo approximately $104 million (the amount the jury awarded in 2006 plus interest). The money is in an escrow account and will be released to TiVo in the next few days."
Read more »Residents of Wilmington, NC were in shock yesterday when they couldn't receive analog television signals. The city presented a test of what the Feb. '09 DTV transition would be like, and the test failed miserably.
Bloomberg news reported on the event, saying residents flooded the city's phone lines. "Our phone lines were lit up for an hour straight between noon and one," said Thomas Postema, general manager of WSFX, the Wilmington Fox affiliate.

Blu-ray finally got its 3D specs completed, and players, discs and HDTVs are expected to start hitting the consumer market sometime in 2010. According to Sony the specs will be backwards compatible, allowing 2D discs to still play on 3D Blu-ray players, as well as allow 3D discs to play on current market 2D Blu-ray players (of course only in 2D).
