DirecTV added 6 cities yesterday to their local HD markets, bringing the total to 115. The added markets include: Fort Wayne, Ind.; Des Moines-Ames, Iowa; El Paso, Texas; La Crosse-Eau Claire, Wis.; Peoria-Bloomington, Ill. and Rockford, Ill. DirecTV most recently added local HD in the Boise, Idaho area.
The satellite television provider now offers local HD broadcasts to over 87% of U.S. TV households.
DirecTV customers must have an H20 or H21 HD receiver or an HR20 or HR21 DIRECTV Plus HD DVR and a Ka/Ku band dish in order to recieve local HD channels.
Read more »In the New York City area, RCN is adding more high-definition channels. They will be reaching 75 HD channels next month, with a near future goal of 100. The all-digital conversion in the area will also allow more standard-def channels.

Read more »Outdoor Channel Holdings Inc, the owner of Outdoor TV, announced on Thursday (Sept. 11) that the company has renewed its carriage agreement with DIRECTV Inc.
The channel, which provides programming related to the outdoors, will continue to be broadcast on DirecTV in standard definition and high-definition in available areas. Under the multi-year distribution agreement Outdoor Channel's programming will continue to be carried by DIRECTV for an undisclosed amount.
